Autumn Dreams, a poem.

the peach sky blankets the treetops
while I fantasize of the life that I want
during Autumn's early days
dreaming dreams that I can only bear
to bring to fruition in my sleep

letting go of old narratives
as we brace for winter's snow
my body tenses in expectation of the worse
knowing those days are past
hidden in summers of old

apple trees bring new fruit and pies to our table
as temperatures drop outside the door
I bundle in flannel and smile in my sleep
while waking hours bring me back to self
dreams are only dreams if you won't bring them to life
